What are notes in GoMsg

Notes are a personal space for storing information inside the messenger. Unlike "favorite messages" in Telegram, this is a full-fledged editor: bold text, italics, headings, lists, checkboxes, links and quotes. Each note can be assigned to a category and tagged.

Visual editor (WYSIWYG)

What you see is what you get. Select text, press B — and it immediately becomes bold. No special characters like **text** or # heading, as in Markdown.

Available formatting tools:

  • Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough
  • Headings at three levels (H1, H2, H3)
  • Bulleted and numbered lists
  • Checkboxes for checklist notes
  • Text and background color
  • Alignment (left, center, right, justify)
  • Links and quotes
  • Inline code and code blocks
Who is this for

Notes in GoMsg replace the "messenger + Notion / Google Keep / Apple Notes" combo. If you already communicate in GoMsg — your personal notes are now in the same place. No need to switch between apps.

Categories and tags

Notes can be grouped in two ways:

  • Categories (folders) — with a color and a name. For example: "Work", "Personal", "Project X". Created with one click.
  • Tags — free-form labels for flexible filtering. For example: #urgent, #idea, #resource.

Categories and tags are shared across all GoMsg modules — notes, plans and reports. Create a "Work" category — and it's available everywhere.

How to save a message from chat to notes

One of the main features is quickly saving a message from a conversation:

  1. Right-click on the message (or long-press)
  2. Select "Save to Notes"
  3. Optionally choose a category and add tags
  4. Click "Save"

The note will be saved with the message author and date. The text is carried over as-is — without distortion, even if it contains special characters.

Search and filtering

At the top of the notes screen — a search bar. It works by title and content. Next to it are filters by category (colored chips) and by tags (with counts).

Additional features:

  • Pinning important notes (Pin) — they're always on top
  • Archive — hide old notes without deleting them
  • Filter by sender — find all notes saved from a specific person

Privacy

Notes are strictly personal — only the account owner can see them. Even the server administrator does not have access to other people's notes. All data is stored on the GoMsg server you trust (self-hosted).

Frequently asked questions

Can I share notes with others?

No, notes are personal. If you need to share — copy the text to a chat or forward it as a message.

What happens to old notes after the update?

All notes created before the visual editor was introduced are converted automatically. Markdown markup is converted to formatted text when opened.

Is there a limit on the number of notes?

No. The limit depends only on the disk space on your GoMsg server.

Can I export notes?

Notes are stored in Quill Delta (JSON) format. In the future, export to HTML and Markdown will be added.
